It sounds like you get more power at the expense of weight and heat, which is much the same as what happens when you engineer a power plant. But A-rated power plants generate more power per ton than D-rated power plants. And A-rated power plants generate less heat. So the only D-rated power plant you might want to use is a 2D (on an extreme stripped-down builds where you're trying to minimize weight at all costs).
